Motivation:
The aim of this course is to introduce students in numerical methods for- linear equations (direct and iterative solvers)
- nonlinear equations
- ordinary differential equations
- optimization (basics only, if still enough time)
- partial differential equations (basics only, if still enough time)
- by providing a brief theoretical background (contents and progress will be adjusted to the knowledge of the participants and are thus flexible - thus, no complete lecture notes will be provided, but only excerpts of different ones, where appropriate) and
- by utilizing the commercial software package Matlab in order to solve some (practical) problems in the named areas.
