Advanced DB Concepts in the context of emerging Application Areas like Web 2.0 and Life Sciences
Database system architectures are undergoing revolutionary changes not least due to new application areas like Web 2.0 or the Life Sciences. In order to accomplish the arising requirements, which go along with these new areas, new DB concepts have to be introduced. These concepts range from the integration of programming languages into the database (e.g. for the implementation of data mining algorithms or the creation of complex workflows), via the introduction of new data types (object oriented extensions, XML, spatio-temporal datatypes, graphs, ontologies) to the introduction of concepts in order to deal with data quality issues, which are especially prevalent in the Life Sciences. Thus, database systems are becoming more and more universal systems.Ziel dieses Seminars ist es, in Form von Gruppenarbeiten einen Überblick über aktuelle Forschungsarbeiten im Hinblick auf ausgewählte Technologien und Konzepte zukünftiger Datenbanksysteme zu geben und den Stand der Technik am Beispiel konkreter Datenbanksysteme auszuarbeiten. Dabei sollen folgende Themenbereiche schwerpunktmäßig behandelt werden:
- DB and Web 2.0
- Object-Relational Mapping Frameworks
- XML-Relational Mapping Frameworks
- Information Integration
- Ontology Management in DB
- Ontology Query Languages (SPARQL,...) and DB
- Semantic Web for Healthcare and Life Sciences (Special Interest Group, W3C)
- Data Quality
Prüfungsmodus:
Das Seminar aus Informationssysteme wird als Block mit Anwesenheitspflicht abgehalten. Hauptgrundlage der Beurteilung sind die schriftliche Arbeit, die mündliche Präsentation, sowie die aktive Mitarbeit.
